Galapagos Island Landscape

Galapagos Island Landscape
The Galapagos landscape is pristine untouched by human activity. The beaches are different and unique on every Island. Some beaches are white like the one above in the picture and then there are the black and red beaches and every other colour in-between. Vegetation also differs from arid to forest and coastal landscape with tidal mudflats. Then, of course, there is the lava landscape with its jagged black rocks that stretch for miles in every direction. To your surprise if you walk for a few kilometres over the lava rock you will come across an oasis where life is sprouting in big water holes and it is alive with fish, birds, trees and insects. How did they get there you ask? Well I am told that the sea water finds cracks under the lava rock and makes its way to areas where the lava has sunken into form ponds and lakes.
The Galapagos group of Islands consists of 18 main islands, 3 smaller islands and 107 rocks and islets. It has been declared a conservation area so you are not able to visit without a qualified guide. Some of the islands are not open to tourists and the number of tourists per year is strictly controlled.
If you have a bucket list of things to do before you die this has to be one of them a visit to the Galapagos Islands
