The Australian Silver Gull is a common species found throughout Australia and is also simply known as “Seagull”.  They are scavengers and their population has increased significantly with the increase in food waste.  These birds can often be seen close to land and around garbage dumps.  The Silver Gull is not a threatened species.

It is relatively easy to distinguish the Silver Gull from other Australian resident gulls both in its size and in its coloring. The Silver Gull is a much smaller bird in size than the Pacific Gull and the Kelp Gull.  The Silver Gull has a white body, head and tail and has light grey wings with white spotted black tips. The bill and legs are bright red in adult birds.
